Why do I need a wedding planner and coordinator?

Ah yes. The most-asked question. I mean, listen. I have a full time job planning weddings. That alone, should tell you something…planning a wedding is A LOT OF WORK. On top of the sheer hours it takes to plan a flawless event, it takes knowledge as well. Hiring a wedding planner ensures that you have a hand-holder who will help find that perfect photographer/DJ/Band/Balloon Artist for you. We know the dirt on all the venues, vendors, and everything in between, and that means you don’t have to spend countless hours scouring the interwebs to find the right place to source your linens. When it comes to your wedding day, the last thing you want is for your mom/dad/maid of honor/best man/nana/papa to be running around, fielding questions from the caterers and venue staff. This day is as much of a celebration for them as it is for you – and after all of the sweat and tears that may have gone into planning, the biggest tragedy would be if you and yours didn’t actually get to enjoy any of it.

How many weddings do you do in a year?

I have given myself the descriptor of “boutique” wedding planner. Which, I think, is a snazzy way of saying I’m a small business. I absolutely love what I do, which is why I have no interest in growing this business into a wedding-producing-machine that churns out weddings every weekend. I purposefully keep my numbers low (around 15 -20 a year) so that I have enough head space and time to devote to each couple. By the time your wedding rolls around, we’re going to be friends, and I consider that a true honor. Being present for you as you make some super important vows to each other is a big deal to me, so you’ll never see me going for quantity over quality.

Why are flowers so expensive?

I hear you. Sometimes I’m still wowed at the price tag on certain flowers. But here’s the deal. Flowers are grown by real people. On real farms. In real, sometimes unpredictable weather. We are truly, at the mercy of Mother Nature when it comes to sourcing blooms, and that’s why some items carry a hefty cost. Our most beloved peonies are absolutely gorgeous, but wildly finicky, and thus are more expensive because I need to have enough leeway to create what you want with the best possible blooms. Supporting the flower farming world is incredibly important to me, especially the local farms right here in Detroit and the surrounding cities. If at all humanly possible, I’m using blooms from growers that I know, have relationships with, and who practice sustainable farming.

Do you have fancy letters after your name?

I get this question all the time. It’s the subtle way of asking “hey, why are you qualified to plan and flower my wedding?” And my easy answer is, I am because I’m awesome at doing it. (No false humility here.) No, I didn’t attend Wedding Planner School. I actually have a degree in Nursing; I worked in healthcare for a few years, while concurrently leading corporate events and retreats. Spoiler alert…It wasn’t the career for me. But I have always been an absolute FREAK about a well-designed space, and flowers are my love language. So, I took a risk and put myself out there after working for free with friends and family for a few years, and launched C&B. That’s the long and short of it! Surprisingly, working as a nurse was great training for the wild world of weddings. I have THE BEST poker face, and will always be smiling, even when that one guest complains to me for the twentieth time that the music is too loud.

Why can’t you just re-make the bouquet I pinned on Pinterest?

Please bear with me on this one. I don’t mean to sound self-important, but event and floral design work is ART. While I really appreciate and need to see the inspirational photos you have gathered, my work is my own, and I will never, ever copy another artist. I like to draw inspiration for your design from you – your personality, your wedding dress, the color of your hair and eyes…Your bouquet is honestly the most important accessory you’ll “wear” on the wedding day so I want to tailor it perfectly. I will give you a design booklet that showcases our overall look, color palate, texture and mood, and ask that you trust my artistic judgement when it comes to creating the end result! I promise you’ll love it.

Why are you covered in dog hair?

Meet Apollo (not after the space mission or the speed skater…but if you know, you know. #BSG), the humble and loyal mascot for C&B, and the reason I keep several lint rollers in my purse at all times. When you come over to my house for coffee and a floral preview, you’ll meet him, and instantly fall in love. I’m “one of those people” who has more pictures of their dog than anything else on their phone. And I definitely wouldn’t be upset if you want your pup to be the ring bearer. Pup wrangling is one of my many areas of expertise.
